Guy Buffet
Guy Buffet was born in Paris in 1943 in a neighborhood that had been home
to Chagall, Matisse, Picasso & Modigliani. His parents loved fine art and owned a restaurant. As
you can see he was heavily influenced by his surroundings.
He left his conventional school to enroll in the Beaux Arts School of Toulon in
order to study art full time then joined the French Navy in 1961 at the age of eighteen. He was ready to
discover the world and his life as an artist and as a man. He was assigned to the cruiser, “De Grasse”,
headed for a seven month journey around the world. The French Navy recognized Buffet’s artistic talent
and named him their official artist. Little did he know that he would discover the lands of his dreams; the
French Polynesian and Hawaiian Islands, places of constant joy for many years to follow.
Guy currently spends his time between his homes on Maui, in Paris and in St. Jean
Cap Ferrat on the French Riviera, often stealing away to some far away island for yet another dose of quiet
inspiration.
